Labour Women’s Network – South East Leadership Programme
Have you ever thought about standing as a councillor, for Parliament, taking on an officer role in your local Labour Party, or getting more involved in your trade union? Or perhaps
you’re already in a leadership role, but want to be clearer in your goals, and sharper at telling your story?
South East Labour has teamed up with the gold standard training team at Labour Women’s Network to offer an exciting personal and political development programme, especially for women Party members across the region. Whether you want to effect change in your branch, CLP, workplace or community, this is an opportunity not to be missed.
Taking place over two face to face days in Central London plus four online evenings, the South East Women’s Leadership Programme will encourage women to sharpen their political narratives, deepen their understanding of power structures and feminist leadership, and boost their political strategy skills. Participants will leave feeling emboldened, purposeful, having got to know a supportive network of sisters from across the region and of all
shades of red.
This is a positive action scheme and we actively encourage women of all backgrounds to apply. The course is free to participants, thanks to funding from the South East Regional Office.
Labour Women’s Network is the only women’s affiliate to the Labour Party. A socialist society, it exists to train women for public office and political activism, and to campaign to
ensure equality for all women in the Labour Party. With a proud thirty three year history of training and campaigning, their highly rated initiatives include the Jo Cox Women in Leadership Scheme, and the LWN Political School.
LWN’s training ethos is grounded in a cocktail of warm reassurance and honest realism. Politics can be tough, and they do not shy away from that. This course will give South East
women the tools they need to succeed and thrive within political systems in which women still don’t’ find a level playing field. Comments from previous training programmes include “It’s like gold dust” and “A little bit life-changing”. Graduates of LWN training include Angela Rayner, Rachel Reeves, Emily Thornberry, Preet Kaur Gill, Jess Phillips, Cat Smith, Thangam Debonaire, Tulip Siddiq, Alison McGovern and Tracy Brabin, as well as councillors, council leaders, Senedd members, Members of the Scottish Parliament, and Police and Crime Commissioners.
Participants are expected to commit to all sessions, as well as occasional development tasks in between, which can be completed flexibly in their own time. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to invest in yourself and your political future. We are looking for diamonds in the rough, so if your fear this programme may not be right for you… it probably is!
